WHO WE ARE

To fully grasp the potential represented by our unique team, you’ll want to cruise through these brief profiles – glimpses, really, of our capabilities and the threads that connect us to the world of aviation and aerospace.

CAMERON BURR

Cameron Burr is one of those individuals who is naturally able to observe people, assess situations, and find buried gems. If you’ve ever met an advisor who can step in during a CEO’s absence and deftly take the controls, that’s Cameron. He’s got a good mental keel. Corporate development and leadership are his forte. But more than anything, he can pick up the phone and make connections between the worlds of aviation, private equity, and corporate America. It is amazing to watch.

Cameron has ridden shotgun with Bob Genise, a leading aircraft leasing executive at Boullioun Aviation Services, SALE, DAE Capital, Aergen, and Avioserv for a total of $22 billion in planes on lease to airlines around the world. He is also known for the restructuring of SBS International (subsequently acquired by Boeing), facilitating corporate refinancing; and representing hedge funds on their aviation investments. His roster of aviation experience includes Avioserv, Aerothrust Corporation, Pogo Jet, and the role of Managing Partner and Co-founder at Jet Capital.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Texas and is a member of the Wings Club based in New York. An avid skier, Cameron resides in Park City, Utah

DAVID LEBLANC

For most people, a balance sheet is a linear, black and white object — literally and figuratively. But for David Leblanc, financial documents are more holographic, revealing insights that others cannot see. We learned long ago to trust his analytical abilities absolutely — and clients tell us his credibility is unparalleled. That’s a beautiful thing.

David came by this experience at the controls of Avioserv San Diego Inc. as CEO, Aerothrust Capital as President, and Aerothrust Leasing as Managing Director. He also served in leadership roles with Boullioun Aviation Services, Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (now Bank of China Aviation), Dubai Aerospace Enterprises, PogoJet, and SBS International (acquired by Boeing).

David earned a Master of Management in both Finance and Strategy from Yale School of Management, a Bachelor of Science in Management Systems from Arizona State University, and he has also completed the advanced program in International Business with a finance concentration from Arizona State.

GLENN LEONARD

In just about every scenario, Jet Capital has a secret weapon: Glenn Leonard.

Glenn became a pilot at 16 and has been flying for nearly 6 decades with experience at the control of over 75 different aircraft types. His knowledge of the aviation industry is vast and encompasses flight operations, regulations, maintenance and engineering, training, and expertise in accident investigation. Show him a screw and he’ll not only know its purpose, but he’ll also explain why it’s essential. He’s deeply steeped in aviation technology, and he sees the long view. He’s not just the answer guy, he’s the guy that knows what questions to ask.

After a successful career at American Airline HDQ including a lot of time in France and bringing aircraft to the states, Glenn co-founded The CAVOK Group, Inc. which Is now operated by Marsh McClennan’s Oliver Wyman Inc. division. He was a key figure in three of the mega airline mergers that occurred in the last decade as well as a major regional airline merger.

Glenn holds an Airline Transport Pilot License with several type ratings and approximately 10,000 hours. A graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in Business Administration, Glenn divides his time between Port Aransas, TX and Ruidosa, NM.

MICHAEL MCCONNELL

Michael McConnell may tell you that his general aviation and business background brings a strong measure of practicality to our motley crew. But we’ll tell you that Michael’s strategic approaches and vision are nothing short of marketing magic. That, compounded with his hyper-growth IT background, are a crucial part of what makes us tick.

Michael can chart the path — when the rest of us may have given up hope — because he follows the data with a purpose. And as our marketing and customer guru, he understands human nature and can see past the “no.” That takes persistence – and Michael has that in spades.
Speaking of magical times, Michael started his career with Dell Computers in those amazing embryonic years of high tech. His segue into aerospace began with Mooney Aircraft, Eclipse Aviation, and Raisbeck Engineering. His entrepreneurial mindset was particularly evident in his creation of two companies including AeroVoodoo, a hardware and software aerospace engineering company and Aero Data Science, a flight data acquisition company for General and Business Aviation.

Michael is an FAA-rated pilot and has owned and flown six different aircraft. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and today lives in Austin, Texas.

CHARLES (BART) NICHOLS

As a senior operating partner, Bart Nichols is our go-to devil’s advocate making him an important part of our ecosystem. His cautious, studious, and often skeptical nature has proven to be invaluable – because that’s what you want in a private equity finance guy. His steady hand is most helpful in preferential economics. We’ve found Bart in our business orbit for years and are appreciative of having access to his experience and his thought processes.

Bart was co-head of a $1 Billion USD denominated outbound private equity fund for Fosun Group, one of the largest private conglomerates in China. While there he led and closed the first foreign LBO ever completed at the company and was responsible for managing and mentoring a team of 13 junior investment professionals, both in Shanghai and NYC.

As a collegiate rowing crew member, Bart continues his practice every day. (Just another example of his uncompromising nature.) He holds an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University. He resides in Park City, Utah.

JIM STURGIS

Jim Sturgis is one of the three amigos who co-founded The CAVOK Group, Inc., now operated by Marsh McClennan’s Oliver Wyman Inc. division, and has unique insight into all operational aspects of the aviation industry. Having interfaced for years directly with the FAA, Jim’s superpower is regulatory compliance. His airline background allowed him to develop nerves of steel while focusing on processes and efficiency. That’s no mean feat.

Of particular note, Jim led the operational mergers of Delta/Northwest, United/Continental, ASA/ExpressJet, Southwest/AirTran, and ValuJet/AirTran — see nerves of steel above. Additionally, he served as part of the Senior Management Committee at Southwest Airlines in the maintenance and regulatory arena, is an advisory board member to Rizse, and is on the board of International Aero Academy which provides pilot and mechanic training for the industry.

Currently, he is COO at EmpowerMX, a cloud-based software solution provider for aviation maintenance. We’re appreciative of having access to Jim and enjoy working with him!

VINCENT CEBULA

Vincent Cebula is an anomaly. For someone who has operated on the investments side of the equation his entire career, he belies all the stereotypes.

When we’re in the scrum of a project, someone will inevitably stick their head up and ask, “Has Cebula weighed in on this?”

Vince has been involved in the investment of over $1.7 billion in 30 companies and loves what he does in private equity, investment banking, and operational restructurings. He finds enjoyment in the process and is absolutely driven by curiosity – a fantastic trait in an advisor.

We first crossed paths with Vince more than 30 years ago in his early years with Drexel Burnham Lambert where he advised clients on acquisition and recapitalization financing. He continued to appear in our orbit as one of the original four senior members of Oaktree Principal Opportunities Fund and again during his time with Jefferies Capital Partners. Among other ventures, Vincent co-founded Solace Capital Partners, L.P., serving as managing partner and COO. Aviation investments (particularly aircraft leasing) have always been a part of his sphere.

It should surprise no one that Vince graduated Summa cum Laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics.

Presently, Vince serves as an independent director of publicly-traded Independence Drilling Contractors Staffing 360 Solutions. He has served as a board director of more than ten other public and private companies engaged in aviation, energy, manufacturing, and retailing.

Suffice it to say, we probably wouldn’t have given birth to Jet Capital without him. Does that make him the Jet Capital muse? Perhaps. We’re just blessed to have him.

ANN RHOADES

If the mandate for values-based corporate management has a guru, it is Ann Rhoades. Ann is the Founder and PRES (Person Responsible for Extraordinary Service) of People, Ink. and has earned a reputation as the thought leader in creating value-centric business cultures.

Ann has brought strategic direction to major U.S. corporations that have become vanguards for their customer-centric behavior and high-performance rankings — in no small part, thanks to Ann. Her pivotal leadership at Southwest Airlines as their first Chief People Officer is legendary. Her inspirational and unique approaches have impacted image and ROI at Promus Hotel Company (Doubletree, Homewood Suites, Embassy Suites, and Hampton Inn brands) and JetBlue Airways where she served as a Co-founder and Executive Vice President.

As the author of the best-selling Built on Values, Ann’s reach has touched board rooms across America and her leadership presentations are popular at business conferences worldwide.

Ann currently serves on the boards of Regis Corporation, Nexphase, Safer New Mexico (Chairman), University of New Mexico School of Education, and Haverland Foundation. She formerly served on the boards of P.F. Chang’s, Restoration Hardware, and JetBlue Airways, just to name a few.

Ann holds an MBA in Management from the University of New Mexico.

DAVID C. HURLEY

As every great wrestler will tell you, there is no substitute for strength – strength of mind, strength of character, and strength of conviction. Those traits only begin to define David Hurley, a living legend in the world of aviation.

As a college wrestler, we believe David laid the groundwork for mental and physical capabilities that allowed his career to soar. Juxtapose that background with his membership in the Society of Experimental Test Pilots, and you begin to get the long view (60 years!) of the man we hold in high esteem.

It was fitting that David was named the Chairman of the Board for the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C., and now serves as Chairman Emeritus. (When you note that he steered the museum’s original capital campaign, you get a sense of the mindboggling breadth and depth of his connections in our industry.)

Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for Aviation Partners Boeing. He previously served as CEO, and Vice Chairman of PrivatAir Inc, based in Geneva, Switzerland. As a co-founder of Business Express Airlines, David played a key role in Delta Airlines’ launching of the Delta Connection. Earlier in his career, he founded Flight Services Group which was acquired by PrivatAir.

David has served on several public boards: Hexcel Corporation, B/E Aerospace Inc (now a part of Collins Aerospace), Genesee & Wyoming Inc., and Genesis Leasing Inc. He has also served on several private boards including CAMP Systems and Coulson Aviation. David holds an Executive Masters Certification with the American College of Corporate Directors, a signal to his strategic advisory prowess.

His first flight at age 14 in a Stinson Voyager and his experience as a check airman with multiple business jet-type ratings, led to more than 14,000 hours of professional flight time and ultimately his Airline Transport Pilot/Instructor credentials. Members of our team who have ridden alongside David in the most challenging of situations can vouch for his stature as a pilot. Even a Wall Street Journal article cited him for his explicit commitment to safety.

To us, David is mentor, coach, and champion. Now that’s a mic drop moment if there ever was one.

ROBERT J. GENISE

A name that routinely comes up in international aviation leadership circles is Robert J. Genise. We are humbled to say that Bob’s participation on our advisory board takes us to a next-level position. Currently, Bob serves on the board of Frontier Airlines as well as the boards of Aloft Aero Architects, and AI Dynamics Inc., but his insight goes beyond aviation and aerospace.

Bob’s background in international banking with particular experience in leasing and finance comes from decades spent in major markets around the globe including London, Dubai, and Singapore, just to name a few. His senior-level experience with Chemical Bank’s Business Credit Corporation adds layers of management in asset-based finance and leasing that span credit, marketing, and administrative roles.

Additionally, Mr. Genise is the current Chairman and Manager of White Oak Aviation and previously served as CEO of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise’s aircraft leasing division, DAE Capital; CEO at Aergen Management Services, and was a Founder, CEO, and President of Boullioun Aviation Services.

Recently Bob was named Chairman Emeritus for the Museum of Flight in Seattle and he is a member of the Advisory Board of the Albers School of Business at Seattle University.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut, a Juris Doctorate from Pace University, and a Bachelor of Arts from New York University.

We’re honored to have Bob at the table.

CRAIG DREW

It’s a serious compliment when aviation leaders – all pilots themselves — refer to you as a pilot’s pilot. Craig Drew is that person. With significant credibility in flight ops, his experience covers airspace, dispatch, line ops, flight patterns (you get the drift), and more. Quiet, thoughtful, and humble, Craig brings a balanced, analytical perspective to everything we consider.

The Federal Aviation Administration knows it, too. As an FAA transport pilot with 23,000 hours, Craig is the guy they ask to serve on panels regarding next-gen air traffic control – a significant honor when it comes to aviation rulemaking.

With decades at Southwest Airlines, most recently as a Senior VP, Craig brought the pilot’s perspective to management. Prior to Southwest, Craig spent a near decade with SkyWest Airlines which included roles as Director of Flight Standards and FAA Designated Flight Examiner, among others.

And, simply because he loves it, Craig is a professor at Arizona State University teaching Aeronautical Management. So, when you note that his undergraduate and graduate education (Brigham Young University and California State University respectively) spans geography, economics, Korean, and historical studies in the humanities, you understand why this lifelong learner and teacher is a valuable member of our team.

Somehow, Craig still finds time for philanthropic volunteerism, skiing, and his other love, Canadian ice hockey.

IAN BEAUMONT

Anyone who ventures into open water must have great vision and navigational skills. Given the amount of time Ian Beaumont has spent circumnavigating the planet on a sailing yacht, you’d agree he’s got those skills wrapped up. But it’s his vision and acumen for building and selling businesses that also captured our attention.

Ian’s background in data analytics and asset management is superb, making him a great cohort in the private equity world. His fintech experience conceiving, developing, and selling Matrix Solutions speaks volumes about his affinity for creating processes and building teams. While there, he designed and built the award-winning Financial-Clarity and Mortgage-Clarity SaaS analytics tools in the UK and later launched in the US, making them the market-wide de facto standard for investment product sales analysis in both countries. (Market Metrics and Matrix were later sold to Genstar for $175 million.)

Ian’s passion for flight was first appeased as a young scholar in the RAF, flying Royal Air Force trainers. He circled back when landing at IBA and was finally able to meld his deep data expertise with all things aeronautical. While at IBA, Ian designed and built the award-winning IBA Insight and NetZero products, respectively the challenger and leader in aviation market intelligence and emissions modeling measurement. He’s also credited with transitioning IBA Group into a leading position in aviation ESG and emissions measurement.

This is a guy who has plumbed the depths of Big Data and BI technologies (think Salesforce.com, Qlik, Microsoft and Amazon) as a thought leader and early adopter and has a comprehensive understanding of wireless networks and technologies.

He hails from England, where at Bristol University he earned a First Class Honours Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Today Ian lives between London and France with his talented sailing crew, otherwise known as his wife and four daughters.

ERIC FAGERBERG

You know that feeling, that sensation, when a long-awaited part clicks into place? That’s the sound of Eric Fagerberg joining Jet Capital. When it comes to the complexities of aircraft maintenance and engineering, we have partnered with Eric for decades, so it was a perfect fit when he joined our team. To give you a little perspective, as a principal in the CAVOK Group, Eric was involved in every major airline merger that occurred on the heels of 9/11.

His insight, particularly from the end user’s point of view, is not only very broad, but also quite deep and includes airline development, fleet acquisition/lease return, quality assurance, maintenance programs, and records department management. He has served as a worldwide Maintenance Steering Group-3 (MSG-3) Chairman and as an industry representative at various FAA councils and Flight Operations Evaluation Boards.

When we’re in the middle of a deal, you’ll find Eric talking with the VP of Technical Operations on the shop floor, because every airline has a different maintenance philosophy, and he understands them all. Whether he’s chatting with the ground crew or scanning through maintenance charts, his MRO assessments are spot-on.

In addition to serving as a principal in CAVOK, Eric is the architect and principal of ReadyFlight and his background includes American Airlines, American Eagle Airlines, JSX Airlines, Mesa Airlines, and Cape Air, among others.

Eric is the wizard who knows the intricacies of maintenance programs, inspections, and parts replacement for thousands of items over dozens of different intervals, cycles, and calendars. Yet he’s got soft skills, too – he’ll pull your entire life story out of you on a single flight – a talent he likely honed in college when he sold men’s suits.

After college at East Coast Aero Tech Eric acquired the travel bug – and probably some requisite bravery – when he backpacked across Europe. Years later, he and his wife adopted two children and have helped others do the same – and that may be the ultimate can-do attitude.
